NEW DELHI: The US Embassy in Israel experienced slight damage due to the concussive impact of Iranian missile strikes close to its Tel Aviv branch, as confirmed by the US Ambassador to Israel on Monday.
No injuries were reported among US staff.
The ambassador also indicated that, owing to the current security circumstances and a shelter-in-place directive, the embassy and its consulate would remain officially closed for the day.
“Some minor damage from concussions of Iranian missile impacts near the embassy branch in Tel Aviv, but no injuries to US personnel,” the ambassador remarked.
Video footage from the area depicted multiple missiles soaring over Tel Aviv, accompanied by loud explosions resonating throughout the city and in Jerusalem. In Tel Aviv, several residential structures in a densely populated region were obliterated in a strike that shattered windows of nearby hotels and residences just a few hundred meters from the US Embassy.
This escalation occurs amidst heightened tensions in the region, following a report by Reuters that US President Donald Trump recently vetoed an Israeli initiative to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. “Have the Iranians killed an American yet? No. Until they do, we are not even considering targeting the political leadership,” a senior US official conveyed to the agency.
US officials are reportedly maintaining ongoing communication with their Israeli counterparts following Israel’s extensive military operation against Iran, which is said to be aimed at limiting its nuclear aspirations.
