Ahmedabad Plane Crash News Live Updates: It is feared that over 200 individuals have lost their lives following the crash of an Air India flight near the Ahmedabad airport on Thursday. The flight, which was en route to London, took off at 1:17 pm with 232 passengers and 10 crew members on board, but shortly after takeoff, it descended and crashed into the BJ Medical College and Hospital, leading to numerous casualties. Air India Flight AI-171 was transporting 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese individuals, and one Canadian passenger. Thick smoke was reported from Dharpur, located near the Meghaninagar area in Ahmedabad. The fire brigade has arrived at the scene, and emergency response teams are being deployed. The authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash. Among the victims confirmed to have perished in the crash is former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, as stated by Union Minister CR Paatil. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed his condolences and has also communicated with Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu regarding the incident. The Prime Minister has instructed both ministers to travel to Ahmedabad and ensure that all necessary assistance is provided to those affected. Earlier today, Shah also reached out to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in the aftermath of the crash. PM Modi is anticipated to arrive in Ahmedabad on Friday.
