A section of an overbridge that is currently under construction collapsed in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday, resulting in injuries to six labourers, according to an official report.
The event occurred at 1 PM near a bus stand and a railway level crossing along the Pohri highway, the official added.
“Fortunately, no workers were present beneath the collapsed section, which prevented more serious injuries. The six injured labourers have been taken to the hospital. They were in the process of laying concrete on the bridge, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 80 crore,” he stated.
He stated that the Madhya Pradesh Public Works Department (MPPWD) has awarded the bridge construction contract to a company named Subham Construction, as they reported.
The official responsible for construction quality control at the company, Praveen Pandey, informed reporters that the incident occurred due to a technical malfunction.
“Excessive vibration was exerted beyond allowable limits, leading to the instability and subsequent collapse of the structure,” he remarked.
Kripal Singh Rathore, the officer in charge of Kotwali police station, mentioned that a notice has been issued to the construction firm.
“A technical investigation is currently in progress. Legal measures will be implemented based on the results of the investigation,” Rathore added.
