To address consumer concerns about resale value and battery lifespan, the Maharashtra government has rolled out a policy that will bring in digital “battery passports” for all new electric vehicles (EVs), marking a first for the nation. In the latest electric vehicle (EV) policy released by the state, a digital battery passport will be implemented to monitor the health, usage, and manufacturing specifics of an EV battery, which is a vital part that makes up more than half of an EV’s worth. “The State shall introduce a digital battery passport to track key parameters such as manufacturing details, real-time health status, usage history, and end-of-life diagnostics,” Maharashtra’s EV policy, notified on 23 May, stated.
